Journey start.

Last week Sue S brought me a couple of small trees to play with,{ see previous posts } one of them was to big for what I wanted to do and was left in the studio until today.
This is how it arrived.

In a one footed pot.

After a repot and some wire was added.

The tree is now on it's journey to becoming a very nice Shohin.

Sue has got to be pleased with the end result.

Accents.

Quite a lot of my accents are showing signs of coming back to life.

Spring must be getting close.
Hopefully.

Bogwood update.

I have been playing again, with the piece of bogwood I did yesterday.

It needs a fair bit of work on the foliage.
But a novelty all the same.

Playing around.

I have been playing around with a Cryptomera today after an idea Mike R had last night for a piece of bog wood I had in the studio.
Sue S supplied the tree and I think with a bit of work this could be very nice.

I have also made a new stand for it to be displayed on.

The stand needs a couple more coats of paint on it, but starting to look quite good.

Amazing what you can do with four chopsticks and a piece of plywood.

Natter night 24th Feb 2014.

A very forgetful night, on my part anyhow, as I did not take any photos of the trees that were brought along.
It is an age thing, honestly.
--------------------------------------------
I did however take some photos of a Hawthorn that has been re-potted today.

This picture shows the Hawthorn in it's new pot, it also shows the temperature in the green house today.
If you can make it out it was about 50 degrees F. The warmest so far this year.

After a little wire was added tonight. This tree was originally a high root off a Paul's scarlet tree that was collected some years ago. When it was removed there was some fine roots on the bottom so I potted it up just to see if it would grow. This is the result of eight years in a big pot.It has been left all this time to see if it would produce flowers to find out if it is indeed a scarlet or the main tree it came off was a graft. As yet no flowers, maybe the repot will spur it into action.
-----------------------------------------------------------
My other Hawthorn bud's continue to swell quite a lot.

As do the bud's on my Kiyohimi maple.

-----------------------------------------------------

I should have taken some pics of Sue's trees but as I said I forgot.
Sorry Sue and everyone else.

Stands for the BSA.

Still two weeks to go but I have been getting my stands ready for the BSA show at Willowbog.

All my own work.

More tweaking.

To-day I have been tweaking my displays for the Shohin show at Willowbog.
----------------------------------------------------
I have wired two or three branches on the Cork Bark Elm and moved them a little.

For the actual display I have made another stand for the Elm.

I also moved the scroll to the center as suggested.

Which way round?

I am wondering which way round to show this display, can you help?

Way one with the main tree to the right.

Way two with the main tree to the left.

Sue S and I think way two is best.

Natter night 17th Feb 2014.

The night started off as is usual at this time of year with re-potting some trees.
---------------------------------------------------
This small Spruce belonging to Margery was the first to be done.

--------------------------------------------------------
Then Paul M arrived with this Silver Birch.

It was in a pond planter inside a terracotta pot, which was to stop it blowing away.

Now in a new pot.

----------------------------------------------------------
This Cork bark Elm was done yesterday, but I thought I would show it as well.

--------------------------------------------------------
Another way to display my three point combination for the BSA show next month.

-------------------------------------------------------
Finally this nice Potentilla belonging to Sue S in a nice new pot.

-------------------------------------------------------
A very mixed bunch of trees, but they all need to be done sometime.

BSA show at Willowbog.

I have been trying out some combinations for the BSA show in March. Both these displays will go into the work in progress section.

In this first photo from the left, Cork bark Elm, Cotoneaster, Procumbens Juniper.

One of my Larch, which was only styled in about January.

-------------------------------------------------
Two more accents.

This mini Strawberry is doing well.

I may even find something else to enter before the show.

Feb novice workshop at Willowbog 2014.

The day started as usual with a lot of rain, which made the trip to Willowbog more like an obstacle course. The day was mainly taken up with re-potting as is normal for this time of year.
----------------------------------------
As usual the day starts with a discussion about students trees.

Then it is on to the main job of potting.

Peter G sorting out the roots on a pine.

Terry gets stuck in helping where needed.

A garden center Hinoki about to get it's first pot.

Yet more trees for potting.

A nice Hemlock after work.

Preparing the pot.

Tidying up.

-------------------------------------------
Today's Tokenoma display, a taste of the upcoming Shohin show in a few week's time.

A busy day but a lot of good work done.
Also a very good learning day for the students.

Random post.

I chose this title because I could not think of anything else to call it.

First off a close up of a Hawthorn, buds starting to open already.

Next, another Shohin pot I have just obtained.

Another accent pot also just obtained.

Finally, I have managed to get my hands on this full set of Ginko books, 1 to 6,

As I already had number 6 this is now for sale.
Make me a sensible offer.

2nd birthday.

Tomorrow the 12th February will be the second birthday of my online Bonsai blog and I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who has visited it.

So have a drink on me to celebrate.

A couple of rocks.

Here are a couple of stones I have had for quite a long time and were collected from one of my Bonsai collecting areas in Scotland.

I only picked them up because I liked the texture of them.
